This will be our fourth year to donate dictionaries to all 3rd graders in our club area. The reactions we receive from the children, their parents, the teachers, and the school administration is fantastic. This is such a great program and the dictionaries are very affordable. Linda Lusher, Rotary Club of Franklin, Franklin, PA 9/9/2010

First time for the Fort Kent Rotary Club. I was involved in this project with the Stratford Lindenwold/White Horse Rotary Club in New Jersey. Leo Smith ran the project. I have since moved back and retired to my home town. The club members are excited about the project. Wallace Desjardins, Rotary Club of Fort Kent, Eagle Lake, ME 9/9/2010

Our Grange has been participating in this program for at least 5 years; it is a part of our Educational Outreach Program. I think it is a wonderful program to help with the literacy of our country. Catherine E McPhail, Garden City Grange # 280, Snohomish, WA 9/9/2010

This is the York Rotary Club's fifth year distributing dictionaries to six school districts in York County and one in Polk County. Both the kids and the Rotarians love it. Great project; we have lots of fun. Love the longest word. Jim Kisicki, Rotary Club of Chesterland, Chesterland, OH 9/9/2010

Donating books to all 3rd and 4th graders in the Jeannette School District. We distribute books personally, and this year will be in honor of Michael J. Salvatore, a Rotarian who was involved in the distribution of all books in previous years. We have been giving books to 4th graders but this year we will give to 3rd and 4th graders, so in the future we will give to 3rd grade each year. Rick Radebaugh, Rotary Club of Jeannette, Jeannette, PA 9/9/2010

I believe we have been participating for the last 4 or 5 years, and we distribute the books to each student in all schools. We mention how Mary started this project and what a great project it is. The club thinks this is one of the best projects we do. It's great to see the kids and see how some of them light up when they get the dictionaries. Many of them can't believe that the dictionary is for them to keep. The teachers look forward to our visit each year, and express their heartfelt thanks for what we do. Our club wishes to thank you for getting this program started. Carl Baruffaldi, Rotary Club of North Scranton, Scranton, PA 9/8/2010

The Maxwell American Legion Auxiliary Unit 249 has been participating in this project for the last few years. The students are so excited to receive their dictionaries every year and they use them at school in their class. The teachers really enjoy the time the students spends with their dictionaries. Our Auxiliary Unit loves it -- what a great experience for students! We are donating these dictionaries to the Collins-Maxwell Elementary School in memory of Lillian Joor - deceased Elementary teacher. We received the money from one of her husband's friends in her memory. Janice Whaley, American Legion Aux. No. 249, Maxwell, IA 9/8/2010

The Rotary Club of Jackson has been providing dictionaries for several years to one school in the Rankin County School District. This year the club decided to choose three schools from our school district to provide dictionaries to those third graders. Age-appropriate activities are chosen to help club members and students interact using the new dictionaries. Education of our young people is valued highly by the Rotary Club. Our county wishes to encourage our young people and young adults to be successful in life. The project coordinator, Ellen L Dabbs, values education and the importance of the community helping our students be successful not only in school but also in life. This is a small way that our community of Rankin County can help our students. Ellen L Dabbs, Rotary Club of Rankin County, Brandon, MS 9/8/2010

This is our fifth year of participation and each and every year is just as exciting as the previous ones. We work through the dictionary with the students.
