| Thank you letters from children are most often the only reward our generous sponsors receive for their participation in The Dictionary Project, but these are the rewards that keep them working on this project year after year. These small tokens of appreciation from the children touch their hearts and make them feel their efforts were worthwhile. They realize that their effort to raise the money for the dictionaries and to take the time to visit the schools to present them was not lost on the students.
Although our donors do not always get to meet the students who receive the dictionaries, when they read their letters they feel as if the writers were talking to them. Here is a sample of the letters we have received from children, so you can see for yourself.

Dear Ms. Hughey,
Thank you so much for sending my class the dictionaries. I really appreciate it. They really come in handy, it is better to have it right there in my desk than having to get up from my seat every time I need a dictionary. Also, my teacher doesn't have to call on one person to look the word up, she can tell the whole class to look it up and we can see for our selves. Thanks again for the dictionaries.
Sincerely,Natalie, East End Elementary, Spartanburg, SC
Dear Ms. French,
Thank you so much for the dictionaries! I like to use dictionaries because they are used for lots of things. I am bad at spelling so I use dictionaries a lot. I really appreciate it. Thank you for letting all of the third graders have dictionaries. I really like what you did for our school. I am happy! You helped our school. Maybe we could help you too! Thank you so so much!

Dear Ms. French,
I am a studious student at New York City Public School 26 in a small place called Fresh Meadows. My favorite subject is gym but I do better at my reading and vocabulary. My teacher, Ms. Arzola, gives me lots of writing and vocabulary homework. My splendiferous and omniscient teacher makes sure that we all get ample knowledge of English vocabulary so that we can better succeed in the future.
I would like to say that your generous gift of the dictionaries to our class is a wonderful thing. The gift is the perfect size for us to not only carry around but also to use at school or at home. It is very practical. I have already started using the dictionary you have donated. I would like to say that I was astonished to find out that the longest word in the dictionary had 1,909 letters!
You have truly inspired our class to learn more with your symbolic donation. A gift of a dictionary means a lot more to me than any other toys. I really mean it. I also learned the importance of giving back to our society like how you did. I hope that I can follow your example of generosity when I grow up and succeed. I would like to donate dictionaries to an elementary school in the future and hope that some kid will thank me the way I am thanking you.
Sincerely, Jin
Dear Ms. French,
Thank you for the dictionaries. Our class really appreciates that. That was very kind of you. I would like to share a little bit about me. I am 8 years old. I go to P.S. 26, Rufus King school.

We do words like prior, tsunami, threshold, etc. I will use it forever.
